New, the first all-electric SUV from Toyota has been unveiled.
The RAV 4 Electric from Toyota has been developped with common collaboration between Toyota and Tesla. Provided by Tesla is the electric drivetrain and battery technology. Toyota’s improvement to this model over the classical conventional motorisation models were done especially on the aerodynamics. But also the headlights, which runs through the day. The rear lights uses LED only to achieve low consumption.
In the interior there is a touchscreen display (8 inch) for navigation, EV drive information and different settings controls. Few driving modes are possible like Sport or Normal. The Normal mode is slower but more efficient, with a speed still achieving 85 mph and does from 0-60 in 8.6 seconds. Sport model does this in 7 sec and the max speed is 100 mph.
The battery life ans specifications:
– Lithium-ion technology with capacity of 41.8 kWh for only 213 kg
– The charing time is 6 hours
– Expected range should be around 100 miles
The price has been set at $49,800, but the government’s tax credits and incentives should lower the price quite a bit, I would say to around $35,000. The car is produced in Canada.
The engine’s power is 115 kW (156 HP).
The first all-electric SUV should be available in late summer in four California markets — Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego. The European Market should wait further longer as for now is not planned to see this car in Europe.
