He does not need the gas… at all.
It’s been some time since the Chevrolet Volt hit the market and even the European Autodealers gives the possibility of buying the car. It’s been interesting to read this real case scenario of usage actually. We had on many occasions the possibility to read the specs of the car, what’s in, what’s not etc… but this is the first time that I ever saw the Testimonials, I mean the real case scenario of usage of Chevrolet Volt.
The owner, Jay Leno, he drives the car everyday. The range of Chevrolet Volt is 38 to 48 miles. He drives 35 miles to his work, where he puts the car on charge, and at the end of the day he drives back home. Where again he charges the car, without even need to refuel …. at all. He has done 11 000 miles without refueling !!
Pretty impressive, and it’s actually exactly how it was designed, and how the usage of that hybrid car should be. This is not the case of the others hybrid models on the market, not event the Toyota Prius, which kicks on the Fuel engine automatically when you hit a target speed while driving electric. That’s definitely not the way I prefer. By having the manual choice to switch from electric to gas engine you can maximize the usage of electric and save some big money on not refueling…. -:)
My Thoughts on that? I think that with the improvements of the batteries, and the technology of making batteries, the range will continue to improve, and so the consumers will be able to benefit to travel even further then the limiting range of 48km, as concerning the Volt. But even that fits greatly in most situations.
