Can you imagine that one day you’ll wear a clothes that’ll make an electricity just when you’ll walk on the street to generate enough power so you can plug in yours everrydays gadgets (MP3, mobile phone….).
The researches at the Georgia Institute of Technology are working on the solution using a nano-fibres which are interacting with each other. This way the electricity is produced by simply moving. If those nano-fibres are integrated into a clothes they’d produced an energy needed by an mobile phone. Those nano-generators based on fibres are providing a simple and economic solution to collect an energy from a simple physical movement
The Idea of it is that the mecanical energy from the beginning is transformed into electricity like in traditional generator. Here this it would be the nano-fibres which will give the mecanical energy from the start and transform with the piezo-electric effect (like your lighter gas who produces a spark when you push the boutton ).
I already talked about
The disposition is imaging that on one side there’ll be the fibres based on kevlar covered with zinc and on the other side the fibres covered with gold which plays the role of electrodes.
With very small gain for now (about only 80mW per M2) there is another question before actually production can start. The question is how to store the electricite produced? It can be a small battery incorporated inside those closes, but what about the washing then? But the idea is here and its up to us to find out how to use it for our profit…
