Konaraka showed flexible solar panels at PV EXPO
Konarka Technologies Inc of the US showed different forms of thin-film solar cell modules manufactured by roll-to-roll process. The 2nd International Photovoltaic Power Generation Expo (PV EXPO 2009)held in Japan.
“The exhibited products are translucent, but we have already developed totally transparent solar cell modules,” said John Gui, Konarka’s vice president, Business Development, Asia. “We will release them at the end of 2009.”
Konarka’s roll-to-roll process simplifies manufacturing scale-up and has significantly lower capital and labor costs than previous generations of solar cells. The process is non-toxic and environmentally friendly, and because it’s conducted at low temperatures, is less energy intensive than 1st or 2nd generation technologies.
