MorganSolar has changed their design a bit…
MorganSolar – a Canadian company developing CPS (concentrate photovoltaic system) has changed a bit their original design of their solar concentrators. The change is mainly on the module LSO (Light-guide solar optic). It went from triangle to square. You can read my previous articles about MorganSolar here or see some great pictures here. Or some of The press coverage here. The moduiles are ultra thin, low cost, lightweight and rugged, and made of proven, long-lasting materials. They are built with simple manufacturing methods, requiring little or no maintenance so the final cost of the panels should be low as well.
What says Nic Morgan about this change:
This change allowed us to reduce dead space on the panels (the edges of the optic have a small moulding flange, but it added up) and makes assembly and manufacture easier. It also allowed us to use less aluminum per panel, so in general, it was a big improvement over the previous design.
Hoq this technology works? Light striking the top of the LSO is trapped and transported inside the optic to edge mounted high efficiency PV cells.
