EDF - Electricité de France, the main European provider has made an investment of $50 million into Nanosolar . Nanosolar is well known company which is specialised in copper-indium-gallium-selenide (CIGS) solar cells. CIGS cells cost less and can be integrated into building materials. Nanosolar’s cells can be printed on thin, flexible sheets of metal. They are flexible. I already talked about Nanosolar and their revolutionary technology. EDF with their investment are making sure that they’ll be able to have access to some solar panels in early 2009.
The company became one of the first to start producing CIGS commercially when it started cranking out production in December. Some other competitors have had to delay production. Right now, only Global Solar in Arizona also produces CIGS commercially.
Aparently there are other companies in the race of thin film printing technology like Miasole and HelioVolt, but only Nanosolar seems to actualy sell their panels right now. Nanosolar’s plant is producing large quantity of thin film solar cells, and all the production is sold.
The information came to us from News.com and EcoGeek.
