A portable charger for cellphone or other consumer devices has been invented in Sweden. The inventor – Anders Lundblad, KTH researcher and founder of MyFC, says that the device can be powered by fresh or seawater. The water need not be completely clean. It’s World’s first portable fuel cell charger for consumer use that runs on ordinary water. It’s called myFC PowerTrekk and provides instant power to mobile phones and most devices that can be charged via USB.
It uses a classical USB cable to connect to charge your smartphone, and can so power any electronic device like digital camera, iPod or GPS devices. The device is composed by few parts. The green cover part includes inside a battery pack, which can also be charged through electricity. The bottom part has the fuel cell (looks like a puck for playing ice hockey) and water compartiment.
The use cases are numerous, and can be quite vital especially in emerging countries as well, where not everywhere can be an electricity found, and you still need your cellphone to be charged…
A quick word from Anders Lundblad:
“Our invention has great potential to accelerate social development in emerging markets,” Lundblad says. “There are large areas that lack electricity, while mobile phones fulfil more and more vital functions, such as access to weather information or electronic payment.”
The device is available through a powertrekk.com website, and can be used when traveling, during long trekking or any other outdoor activity.
myFC PowerTrekk is a 2-in-1 solution that is both a portable battery pack and fuel cell. The portable battery pack can be operated on its own as a ready source of power or storage buffer for the fuel cell. The fuel cell enables instant charging from a deflated battery state without ever needing a wall charge
We got a video too… -:)
