Darren,

I don't think that even with solar panels on the roof you won't get much more "juice" to be able to recharge your batteries. The think is to be able to have enough power to get back home (or to the nearest charging station). With a Bluecar maybee? The car uses a revolutionary technology battery which gives a great autonomy of over 250Km and the top speed 130Km/h. See here: http://www.best-solar-energy.com/featured-articles/french-revolution-in-lmp-batterys-powered-bluecar/

The Nissan LEAF looks like a really good car, apart from one let down.

The charging.

Did Nissan not think it might have been very good planning to put some kind of solar panels into the roof?

I know we don't get much sun in the UK, but at least with solar panels in the roof it would give an extra few miles, and if you did get stuck somewhere miles away from the nearest electric charging point you could just park the car up and leave it charging on it's own.

I wonder if when it comes out Nissan will bring out some kind of solar panel add-on pack.

We get a new car in October, and would have gone for a Nissan Leaf, but with the severe lack of garages having any type of support for electric vehicles I'm probably going to go for another Nissan Note, and hope in 3 years Nissan have worked something out.
